Overview
Kuwait generally requires a GCC-approved pre-departure medical for Indian workers travelling on employment visas. The medical is booked through the Wafid system and the result is shared electronically.
Kuwait also commonly conducts its own medical checks after arrival as part of the residency process, so the pre-departure medical is one step in a longer process.
Visa categories & medical
- Work visas – including domestic workers, drivers and technicians – usually need a Wafid medical in India.
- Family/dependant visas may need it depending on the sponsor’s instructions.
- Your visa or NOC number may be requested by the medical centre – keep it handy.
Tips for Kuwait applicants
- Double-check your passport expiry; Kuwait visas usually need sufficient passport validity.
- Arrive early on medical day; some tests require fasting.
- Keep your medical slip and receipt until your residency is completed.
What the medical usually includes
The GCC pre-departure medical typically includes a general physical examination, chest X-ray, blood tests (for example HIV, hepatitis B and C, syphilis and blood group), urine and sometimes stool tests, and a pregnancy test for women. The exact tests are set by GCC standards and the medical centre. Results are decided only by the medical centre.
